Please note that all grade 4 students are carefully assessed in Term 1 & 2 before being selected for English Home Language classes from grade 5-7. These assessments will be conducted in accordance with the CAPS regulations.
A resolution was taken by the Governing Body in Term 1 that only the top 25 students can be accommodated in the English Home Language classes from grade 5-7. Provision is furthermore made for two English First Additional Language classes from grade 5-7.
Our objective is to maintain the highest standard of teaching as is possible in the English Home Language classes. As a result of the vigorous requirements in the English Home Language classes, only the top achievers in the grade will be considered.
However, students are assessed on an annual basis and it is possible for a student to be allocated a place in the English Home Language classes when space is available at a later stage.
It is important to know that students will not be disadvantaged in grade 8 if they do not take English Home Language in the primary school. Our First Additional Language classes are of such a high standard that students will be well equipped to pursue English Home Language as a subject in the high school.
Parents are kindly requested to refer to the English Department’s policy for further information.
